Rodeo Club 2019
The United States Air Force Academy Rodeo Team consists of 30 cadets with an intercollegiate competition team of up to 8 members. The team competes at five to ten rodeos each year as part of the Central Rocky Mountain Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. Team members compete in 5 rodeo events including: Team Roping, Breakaway Roping, Barrel Racing, Bull Riding, and Bronc Riding.
Beyond competition, our club volunteers throughout the local rodeo and equine community. Our team also supports the Colorado State University Rodeo Team in hosting their annual intercollegiate rodeo as well as helping local ranchers with their cattle.
While the Academy is able to partially cover the travel costs for cadets, repeated budget cutbacks could cause the club to no longer compete in all annual regional competitions. With the competition team of up to 8 members, the team currently operates off of primarily cadet funds in order to maintain our competition status. Cadets pay for their own membership and entry fees (exceeding $600 annually), purchase their own competition uniforms, and maintain our horses. This puts a financial strain on the cadets, and is a potential detractor for someone who might be interested in participating in the sport.
The goal of this project is to raise at least $5,000 through the United States Air Force Academy Endowment, to cover travel expenses for the fall and spring seasons and offset the costs of competing that individual cadets incur in this sport.
