The U.S. Air Force Academy is deeply saddened to announce that Aurora died in the early morning of October 2nd. Aurora was the Academy’s longest serving live mascot. In her 23 years at USAFA, she interacted with tens of thousands of people at sporting venues and military and community events. In addition to serving as an ambassador for USAFA, she was an ambassador for all falcons, helping us educate the public on the importance of these majestic birds.
Monies raised through this site will go in support of the USAFA Cadet Falconry Club. Through the Cadet Falconry Club, and in partnership with Air Force Academy officials, donated monies will go toward the long standing tradition with all mascots, of taxidermy service to have Aurora mounted so that she may be displayed at USAFA. Furthermore, donations will go toward expenses associated with the purchase of a new, all white gyrfalcon.
All additional monies raised will go toward the Cadet Falconry Club in assisting with the purchasing of required uniforms, which present a positive image for the Falconry Team and the Air Force Academy as well and varied enough to cover the different weather conditions presented for the team to accomplish their mission regardless of time of year or weather. The equipment is required for care, handling, and training of the falcons and training and presentations for the cadets.
