Help the USAFA lifting team develop cadets’ warrior ethos and leadership skills.
The lifting team needs gear and clothing for competition, as well as equipment for practice, such as calibrated plates. Last year competitive members paid out of pocket for their gear and equipment.
Because cadets have been paying for needed items, only 13 members are on the competitive team. There are approximately 100 USAFA cadets, however, who are interested in advancing their lifting careers.
Funding to support attending competitions and allowing members to practice with the team will allow the lifting team to expand its competitive presence. This will enable more USAFA cadets to compete in a sport that they are truly passionate about, without worrying about paying for gear and equipment.
The USAFA lifting team currently has 13 competitive members and about 100 club members. The competitive members have participated in state, national and international competitions. The team includes bodybuilding, power lifting and Olympic lifting. USAFA lifting team members hold half of the all-time USAFA weightlifting records. Bodybuilding members have taken four first-place wins at the state level in the year, while power-lifting members have competed four times at the national level, placing first and second in those competitions.
The USAFA lifting team has 10 CICs who dedicate their free time to all club activities, including judging USAFA records, writing programs, doing club outreach and organizing club events.
